Firefox 3 Out of Beta in the Hardy Repositories, I Still Miss Extensions
Just pulled down Firefox 3.0 (Release Candidate 1) from the Hardy Heron Ubuntu repos this morning. Nice to have it out of beta. I’m still missing some important extensions that haven’t updated for Firefox 3.0, though, most notably Commentful, Greasemonkey, and FireFTP.
The Commentful extension is a great tool for tracking comments on various blogs. It’s one of those extensions I just have to have! I am missing it, but at least they’ve got a little bookmarklet that helps me add things to my watchlist. Instant notification of replies is impossible without the extension, but I have the website emailing me when a new comment is left. Not perfect (I’d like to keep my inbox less cluttered) but it works till they update.
Greasemonkey is a fantastic extension that allows user scripts to be implemented on websites that do things like change themes and add functionality. The I’m REALLY missing is Gmail macros. Can’t wait to get Greasemonkey back.
FIreFTP is just darn handy to have around. A nice, full featured FTP client that resides in a Firefox tab. It makes sense to group this app with with my browsing, and it’s one less item in my dock/taskbar.
Are you missing any extensions in Firefox 3.0?

Although Firefox 3 RC1 hit Ubuntu repositories, this still isn’t a “stable” version. Firefox 3.0 final hasn’t been released to the general public yet, although it is expected sometime in the next month.
Amongst the extensions still incompatible, I really miss Firebug and PwdHash– both I would use on a fairly regular basis.
Thanks for that heads up, Scott. It Help -> About Mozilla Firefox it doesn’t say RC1, just a nice 3.0, so I guess I jumped the gun. Should’ve double checked! I added some clarification to the post, though.
