Achieve Absolute Zen By Pruning Your Menu

Okay, maybe not absolute Zen. But I’ve been putting off pruning my GNOME menu for quite a while now, and I finally bit the bullet a couple days ago. The difference in workflow for me is amazing. I’ve been working in GNOME for so long that I suppose I just forgot what it’s like to have a nice, streamlined menu.
I haven’t edited my menu at all since my last install, so it was chock full of KDE apps I never use (but still want to keep around to play with when I’m in KDE), it still had the “Education” menu entry that I never even touch, and the “Other” folder which was mostly double entries. I spent about 10 minutes to prune my menu to only apps I actually use, and I immediately felt a sense of stress relief, probably just because of the reduction in clutter. And now, I find my apps without scrolling though a huge list.
Sometimes it’s just the simple things, I guess.
What menu hacks/mods do you use? Are you even using the standard GNOME/KDE menu, or are you using an alternative like AWN or the Gimmie applet?
