Why I’m Resisting the Ubuntu Upgrade Itch

Sounds crazy, even to myself, but…I still haven’t upgraded to Gutsy Gibbon. “But it’s been nearly a half a week since the release!” you exclaim. Allow me to explain myself:

I haven’t backed up
Upgrading should be flawless. I haven’t heard one negative report about upgrading from Feisty to Gutsy…but just to be the safe side, I’m gonna make sure I’m completely backed up, and that I have a good future back/restore strategy in place.

My workflow is working for me right now
Even though there are some productivity boons in the next release (desktop search in the file chooser, for instance) my current system is working very well me and my wife (we share the desktop).

I don’t have time to set stuff up/reconfigure scripts, etc.

Since I’ve pretty much decided to do a clean install, that will open up it’s own can of worms, including reconfiguring certain applications, reinstalling things, etc. I’ve just been too busy the past few weeks to even think about it.

Of course, this isn’t saying I’m not going to upgrade, just that for the moment, it’s probably not the most productive thing to do.

What about you? Do you just have to upgrade as soon as the new release comes down the pipe? How does it affect your productivity at work, school, or home?
